Helden Distillery
Founded in 2018, Helden Distillery is a South African small batch whisky distillery pursuing innovative spirits and African Style whisky. Some 20 years ago lead distiller, Pieter van Helden – at the age of 17 – fell in love with the potential of the distillation process. From producing hobby level fruit brandies (locally known as “mampoer”) he evolved to focusing on the art of whisky. Helden is the Dutch word for “heroes”, and this distillery certainly marries the best of the founders’ heritage and their love of South Africa.

COMPANY FOCUS AND VISION: We strive to artfully establish new styles of whisky whereby we can bring the joy of the whisky experience to a wider audience. This includes the innovative use of wood in the maturation of our single malt and single grain spirits and producing unique African Style whiskies which combine African malted grains and African wood maturation.
WHAT WE OFFER:
- A Helden Whisky Pairing Experience: the tour of our small distillery includes a tasting of four Helden products/prototypes with snacks.
- Deductive tastings:A unique experience where our founding distiller demonstrates how to step-wise deduce an in-depth product flavour profile. (Maximum of two products to be profiled.)
- Private functions: Book a time slot at the distillery premises or request a quote for your special event. Prices are per person, maximum of ten participants per time slot.
