Karoa Cara Distilling Company
Situated in the coastal town of Ballito in KwaZulu Natal, the Karoa Cara Distilling Company is owned by Janie and Elwin Barnes. Karao Cara White Gin is the only cloudy gin in South Africa, which is also the only spearmint and cardamom gin in the world. This unfiltered gin won the World Gin Awards’ Best South African Contemporary Gin in 2022.

COMPANY FOCUS AND VISION: Head distiller, Elwin Barnes, uses only fresh, organically grown local botanicals to give their spirits its unique bold and flavourful South African character. The spirits are handcrafted in small batches and the gin slow-distilled to ensure that the maximum flavour and essential oils are extracted from each ingredient.
Karoa’s products are free from artificial flavours or colorants and are professionally crafted in small batches – never mass-produced.
